Quick Start Guide for Restore / Replace in Source-Connect Studio/Facility
The following is the most common scenario:
- Launch Source-Connect.
- Set your watch folder / session folder in the Restore/Replace Setup panel.
- Connect with Source-Connect to your connection partner and check that you have the Restore/Replace icons in Source-Connect to the left of your connection partner’s name and avatar in the Connections tab and the connection item is surrounded by a Green line (Restore only) or a Blue line (Restore/Replace).
- Record a test file – it should show up within 10 seconds in the “RECORDED FILES” tab. If there were no network dropouts the file status will be “Restore not required”. If that file needs restoring, the Restore process will automatically start and quickly restore the audio recording and change the status to “Restored”: play it back and it should sound perfect Once the file has either the Restored or Restore Not Required status, you can select and choose Replace Now.
- Once the Replace process has completed you now have the original PCM audio in your timeline and the file status is Replaced: it is as if you had traveled across the world to where your connection partner is and recorded it directly from their microphone.
The Restore feature works in the background in non-real time and restores your recorded audio files the moment they are detected. The Replace feature is activated on-demand, because it uses more bandwidth and may interrupt your current recording session. In a future version you will be able to select an entire session and Replace it.
