Configuring your Chat Settings in Source-Nexus Gateway

Both the hosts of a streaming session and regular participants can configure settings before entering the session, including audio and video settings, and the display name and passkey (host-only), and after joining, using the gears icon.

Source-Nexus Gateway - Host Settings

After logging into the Source-Nexus Gateway, hosts reach a “Chat Settings” screen with the following settings:

• Display name: the name displayed in the participants list to other users in the broadcast. This will not have an impact on the display name you have configured in the user dashboard.
• Camera/video input: the video device to be used as a camera during your broadcast.
• Background blur: enable this feature to have a slight or full blur behind your video to obscure any unwanted objects on your background.
• Microphone/audio input: the audio device used as a microphone, for your users to hear you.
• Use original audio (HQ): enable original audio for high-quality stereo audio (mono only when using Source-Nexus Free). It is recommended to use headphones to prevent audio feedback.
• Speaker/audio output: the audio device to be used to hear back any sound from the broadcast.
• Test button: the test button will play a sound to ensure that the speakers are correctly configured.

Clicking on the “Show All Settings” enables the following additional settings:

• Audio
  • Microphone/audio input: the audio device used as a microphone, for your users to hear you.
  • Microphone fader. When “Use original audio (HQ)” is on, you will see an “HQ” indicator next to the microphone fader. 
  • Speaker/audio output: the audio device to be used to hear back any sound from the broadcast.
  • Test button: the test button will play a sound to ensure that the speakers are correctly configured.
  • Use original audio (HQ): enable original audio for high-quality stereo audio (mono only when using Source-Nexus Free). It is recommended to use headphones to prevent audio feedback.
    • Stereo Audio. A checkbox allowing you to turn on stereo audio when using the original audio.
  • Max Audio bitrate: the bitrate to be used in the outgoing audio:
    • When sending mono audio out, the options will be:
      • Good / 64kbps / mono
      • High / 96kbps / mono
      • Great / 128 kbps / mono (default)
      • Top / 160 kbps / mono
      • Best / 256 kbps / mono
    • When sending stereo audio out, the options will be:
      • Good / 128 kbps / stereo
      • High / 192 kbps / stereo
      • Great / 256 kbps / stereo (default)
      • Top / 320 kbps / stereo
      • Best / 512 kbps / stereo
  • Push to talk: shows or hides the “Push spacebar to talk” (push-to-talk or talkback mode) button during broadcasts. This will allow your connection partner(s) to hear you, and is an alternative to manually clicking the mute button.
  • Sound notifications: mutes/unmutes any notifications received during the broadcast (for example, instant messages).
  • Mute all audio (disabled by default): when enabled, the setting will mute all the audio (including the input) for the participant. A button will appear on the Gateway's main screen to unmute if desired - the unmute button will not unmute your microphone (this can be done manually).
• Video
  • Camera/video input: enable or disable the camera feature for your calls.
  • Camera source: the video device to be used as a camera during your broadcast.
  • Send Resolution (maximum): the maximum video resolution you will send to other users. The options are Low, Medium (SD), High (HD) and Highest (Full HD). Source-Nexus Gateway will default to “Highest”.
  • Receive Resolution (maximum): the maximum video resolution you will receive from other users. The options are Low, Medium (SD), High (HD) and Highest (Full HD). Source-Nexus Gateway will default to “Highest”.
  • Mirror self video: horizontally mirrors your video when enabled.
  • Background blur: enable this feature to have a slight or full blur behind your video to obscure any unwanted objects on your background.
  • Mute all video: when enabled, the setting will allow you to mute all videos in the Source-Nexus Gateway session. Keep in mind you will not be able to see any videos on the session, but they will keep broadcasting.
  • Show my camera tile: this is to show or hide your own camera tile in the Source-Nexus Gateway. Other users will still continue seeing you unless you turn off your video.
• General
  • Display name: the name displayed in the participants list to other users in the broadcast. This will not have an impact on the display name you have configured in the user dashboard.
  • Enter the new pass key: allows broadcasters to set a new passkey before or during broadcasts. The passkey must have a minimum of 4 alphanumeric characters and up to 50.
  • Change the pass key button: confirms the new passkey. Closing the Chat Settings window without clicking it will not save the new value.
  • Highlight active speaker: this setting will draw a blue border around the video of the person speaking during the call. 

Source-Nexus Gateway - Viewer Settings
