Eero routers configuration and troubleshooting
This article is preserved for legacy use only for Source-Connect version 3. We recommend updating to Source-Connect 4
Disabling UPnP
- Open the eero app on your smart phone.
- Go to the settings tab.
- Select Network Settings.
- Select Advanced settings.
- Select UPnP and then disable it.
Setting up Port Forwarding on your computer or phone
Port forwarding can be configured in Advanced settings of the eero app:
- 1. Open the eero application.
- 2. Go to the Settings tab.
- 3. Go to "Advanced Networking".
- 4. Go to Reservations & Port Forwarding
- 5. Go to IPv4 Reservations & Port Forwards
- 6. Select your computer
- 7. Select "Open a Port". A pop-up will appear. Select Save.
- 8. Name the port in the "My Port" field. The default name will be "My port" - make sure you update it.
- 9. Enter 6000-6001 for the port range.
- 10. Select UDP for the protocol
- 11. Do NOT check the “use a different internal port” button.
- 12. Hit the Save button on the top right of the screen to save this setting.
This should help get Source-Connect running. You could also try bypassing the eero router entirely if that is an option.
Install the latest version of Source-Connect Standard or Source-Connect Pro (if you are using that).
Version 3.1 - 3.9.1, Windows and macOS - Crashes
Due to a new UPnP bug, Source-Connect version 3 will crash with some newer routers such as Eero if UPnP is enabled and ports are not correctly forwarded.
Solution
- Disable UPnP in the Router either using the APP on your phone or through website login to the router.
- Give your computer a DHCP reservation in the router and port forward for source-connect in the router
The Source-Connect crashing on login issue seems to be related to the UPnP function in eero routers being broken after a recent update. UPnP is an automated port mapping protocol. To fix the issue, you will need to disable UPnP in the eero router settings, and then also manually setup port forwarding. See instructions below.
