iLok and iLok authorizations
This article is related to the Source Elements products and iLokiLok is a third-party company that provides software licensing for over 100 audio software companies. An iLok license is used to give a software purchaser the right to use software and to protect that software from unauthorized use.
- An iLok license is a unique digital asset that can only exist on one device at a time. When you purchase Source Elements products, such as Source-Connect, you will be sent a code for a license, and you will need a free iLok account to activate your iLok license. You will need to activate the license to the computer you will use the product on or to an iLok dongle attached to that computer.
- An iLok dongle or key is a USB drive you can purchase from iLok. This is completely optional for most of our products, but can make the process easier if you need to move the license from one computer to another. Alternatively, you can use a program called iLok License Manager to move your license from one computer to another.
You will need a free iLok account for most Source Elements products
To be able to purchase, obtain, or use your own Source-Connect and Source-Nexus I/O iLok license, you will need to create an iLok account: you can create one from the iLok website. Source-Live Pro: Low Latency, for example, does not require an iLok account or an iLok dongle.

An iLok USB dongle is not required for most applications. Here's why you should get one anyway
All licenses can be activated to an iLok USB dongle. Having an iLok can be really helpful, especially if you use more than one computer frequently. If you have activated the license to an iLok dongle instead of a computer, then moving the license is as simple as removing the dongle from one computer, and plugging it into another.
Having said that, there are only a handful of application versions which require it:
- Source-Connect Pro 3.8 needs an iLok USB.
- Source-Connect Pro X needs an iLok USB.
Purchasing an iLok
The iLok retails for around USD45.00. You can buy an iLok directly from iLok.com, or from stores and Pro music shops, such as:
Registering your iLok
Once you have an iLok, you need to create an account at iLok.com and register your physical iLok with this account. Follow the instructions on the iLok.com website for details. You will use this account to receive licenses that allow you to launch Source-Connect Pro software.
Trial Authorization
To download and try Source Elements software (except for Source-Live Pro: LL) you will need to have an iLok.com account. Go to the Product page of the software you wish to download and you will be asked to complete the evaluation process.
At the same time, we transfer a trial license to your iLok username. You will activate the trial license when you first launch the software.
When successful, you will now be authorized to use the software for 15 days. Fully featured, no restraints.

Source Elements supports Zero Down Time and the new Theft and Loss Coverage from iLok.com. We urge all license holders to activate LTC immediately in case of lost or stolen iLoks. iLoks that have not been protected with TLC prior to loss or theft cannot be replaced according to our Purchase Policy

Securing your iLok and iLok licenses
If an iLok is lost or stolen Source Elements is not able to replace lost or stolen licenses unless TLC has been activated prior to the loss or theft. Broken or non-functional iLoks can be repaired by PACE and it is your responsibility to secure my iLok licenses with Zero Down Time (ZDT) if a temporary replacement license is required instantly.
